AGAM Predicts Trends for 2015

While we know that most marketing money is moving towards social media, few know that the marketing budget is for events, such as trade shows. Connecting with potential and current clients face-to-face is a great way to market and engage with your consumers. So, as 2014 wraps up, AGAM wants to give you a few ideas to look forward to in the future of the tradeshow industry, and what you can do to get more clients.

AGAM Will Create Structural Booths with Bigger Profiles

The saying “bigger is better” resounds with many of our clients. It is the easiest way to stand out in a hall full of exhibit displays. Here are a few of the trends our Industrial Designers and Project Coordinators are forecasting for 2015: integrated technology, curving extrusions, integration of fabric with backlit displays and tool-free setup.

Integrated Technology

AGAM has already designed and developed various structures for our clients that include mounts for monitors and stands for iPads. The integration of technology into exhibit displays allows customers to go to the next level. Touch screen devices make it easier for clients to peruse catalogs and learn more about their products.

Curves

AGAM operates two CNC controlled roller benders. These benders work by introducing pressure and creating a “pinch” as material is driven through the roll sets. This force is applied by changing the distance between the top roll and the bottom two rolls. At AGAM, we can incorporate various radii in one pass, going from straight to curve, and then back to straight or even arches. Curves will take your display to the next level.

Integration of Fabric with Backlit Displays and Tool-free Set Up

AGAM has developed a number of SEG Extrusions that allow for versatility and reusability with displays. Integrating fabric into exhibits has and will continue to become popular because it can be exchanged with a new design, saving companies time and money. Another reason integrating fabric will be trending in 2015 is because it is an easy way to cover channels to hide various extrusions. We’ve seen many clients want to create seamless, clean, modern displays, and this is accomplished with SEG fabric. AGAM also has Pliko, a backlit, tool-free SEG Exhibit. Pliko is great because it has no loose pieces, and no tools are required. It takes less than 10 minutes to set up.

With the economy showing multiple upward trends, we see custom vibrant colors being in high demand. Concept Development of AGAM’s FH2001

The FH2001 is an eight-inch (200mm) deep extrusion that can be engineered to construct custom-sized lightboxes. Here are the most important design objectives AGAM followed when creating the FH2001:New Product Launch at AGAM – The Lightbox Extrusion, FH2001

  • A slim, sturdy 200mm profile
  • Double-sided Silicone Edge Graphic (SEG) frame
  • Option between hard panel and fabric diffusers
  • Multiple light configuration possibilities

AGAM manufactured a small sample using existing extrusions. There are two different sized miter and inline connectors for the FH2001: small and large. The smaller version is intended for frames of 6’x6’ or less, and the larger versions are for frames of 6’x6’ or more.

Development of AGAM’s Lightbox Extrusion FH2001

Because of the slim profile of FH2001, the lights can be mounted very close to the edge of the frame, creating large, fully backlit displays without dark edges. The internal channels are spaced so that the number of LED strips can be easily doubled for an extra bright display.

After the drawing was officially approved, and sample lengths of the FH2001 were received, our engineers built a full sized frame to test the strength, ease of assembly, and lighting effects. They also began determining the best way to incorporate different accessory pieces, such as base plates, side legs, and corner braces. All of these would be used to provide additional strength and stability, which is necessary for large-scale frames.

The best way to attach the base plate was to manufacture a custom plate with two holes. By lining up the two outer channels on the FH2001, this would secure the base plate to the rest of the light box.

Connections are made with carriage bolts, washers, and nuts, just like any other FH frame. By adding the second hole in the base, the bolts do not interfere with the LED strips in the center channel.

The extra depth of the FH2001 frame creates space between the graphic and LEDs, so the light is appropriately diffused and evenly spaced.

Extrusion VR188

Sometimes, AGAM requires its employees to learn new fabrication techniques in order produce the designs submitted by our customers. Having creative minds, our clients come up with some of the most innovative ways of using our system in their designs.

For instance, a customer sent us a drawing of a 20 x 20 booth that used the VR188 extrusion for the verticals and VO108 extrusion for the horizontals.

Although most of the extrusions in the AGAM system connect seamlessly together, to connect these two extrusions we needed to think outside of the box. As you can see below, one is a round extrusion, and the other is an oval extrusion.

If we were to use the traditional approach, the result would be functional but not aesthetically pleasing.

AGAM Solution: Grudging Extrusions

The solution was to grudge the VO108 so that when it is connected to the VR188, the result is a seamless connection. Grudging is shaping the end or ends of an extrusion neatly to fit the contours of an adjoining member. We had done this numerous times with our smaller round profiles shown below:

Even though we had never done a grudge with the larger VO108 extrusion, AGAM made it possible. The Project Coordinator discussed it with the Industrial Designer, who was excited to give it a try, so he drew the concept using AutoCAD, and it looked possible.

With only one round of testing, we were able to grudge the extrusion VO108 successfully, so it connected correctly with the extrusion VR188. A custom CBX connector was needed to ensure a proper fit and secure connection.

The Process at AGAM

AGAM Extrusions to Create Seamless SEG Fabric Corner Cube Step 2: Connecting the Extrusions

  • The FH451 have CBX42 Connectors (16 pieces) installed on each end
  • Connect the FH451 horizontal beams to the FH1490 vertical posts by tightening the CBX42 Connectors
  • Slide the FH1490 End Plate (8 pieces) into the internal cavity on the top and bottom of the FH1490 vertical posts.
  • Tighten the end plates on the FH1490 extrusion with a screw.

  • Design an image that lends itself well in a spanned format. For example, the image below was used for our EuroShop 2011 Exhibit.
  • After a graphic has been decided, divide it into four equal parts (these will be printed by your SEG provider)

Versatility of AGAM’s Seamless SEG Fabric Corners

The outside of the display attracts customers to a certain area of the store while the inside provides more detailed information about the products.
