From the line drawing, the Project Manager prepared a quote and sent it along with the drawing to the customer for their review and approval. The customer felt that AGAM’s engineered drawing matched their design requirements.

However, they also identified some potential improvements that would incorporate storage space. The improvements were to change the round table tops (as seen under the TVs) to square cabinets with doors to provide room in the booth for storage. Based on the client’s suggestions, AGAM produced another AutoCAD drawing, taking great care to incorporate their revisions and create a design for their needs.

Fifteen years ago, after moving into a new, larger building, AGAM was looking toward expansion and growth. Debbie Seidlitz, Human Resources and Accounting, Tamas Kocsis, Vice President of Design and Engineering, and Troy Holland, Vice President and General Manager, were the driving force of leading AGAM into the future. Their outstanding character and professional quality held AGAM together through tough times.

AGAM Moves Forward Despite Tough Times

While business slowed, and times were tough when the recessions hit in 2000-2001 and 2007-2008, AGAM was able to come out stronger and ready to embark on a very long period of substantial growth.

Throughout the difficult times, the company always looked beyond the short-term, never losing faith in our collective ability to build a better future. Debbie, Tamas and Troy, the three individuals who have been with the company for fifteen years, have also been part of the driving force for the business. These three people continuously push AGAM forward through strong leadership and guidance.

New and Improved AGAM

Flash forward a few more years and AGAM has recently relocated to a bigger, better building of gigantic proportions. Our current space measures 110,000 square feet! That is three times the size of our old building. As our business continues to thrive, AGAM believes our organization is better than ever.

AGAM is now ready to embark on the next fifteen years of growth together. AGAM’s ability to listen to customers, adapt to new demands, design novel products, and to be a “people company” are keys factors in our driving success.

To thank Debbie, Tamas, and Troy for their many years of dedication and service, we celebrated their fifteen-year anniversary with an event of epic proportions! With a little creativity, AGAM was able to incorporate some of our products and extrusions in the celebration, giving the event a personal and unique touch. Below are some of the highlights of our festival!

Robert (photographed to the right) is our Lead Curve Specialist. He is responsible for overseeing three CNC roller benders; two saw stations and up to three employees that work in his department.

Bending curves is an art and science because aluminum extrusions change properties based on age and temperature. So, even if Robert writes programs for the different extrusions and radius’s, they cannot be 100% perfect the first time and “tweaking” always needs to be done.

To ensure curves come out correctly, Robert uses a unique radii-measuring device and also checks the curve with a 1:1 scale print out of the curve.

AGAM Extrusions to Create Seamless SEG Fabric Corner Cube Step 2: Connecting the Extrusions

  • The FH451 have CBX42 Connectors (16 pieces) installed on each end
  • Connect the FH451 horizontal beams to the FH1490 vertical posts by tightening the CBX42 Connectors
  • Slide the FH1490 End Plate (8 pieces) into the internal cavity on the top and bottom of the FH1490 vertical posts.
  • Tighten the end plates on the FH1490 extrusion with a screw.

  • Design an image that lends itself well in a spanned format. For example, the image below was used for our EuroShop 2011 Exhibit.
  • After a graphic has been decided, divide it into four equal parts (these will be printed by your SEG provider)

The Q & A below is an excerpt from the Exhibit City News story that featured key professionals in the aluminum extrusion industry. Our very own President, Xavier Decludt, discussed the trends, technology, and benefits of extrusion-based exhibit systems. Let’s see what he had to say:

What are the benefits of using an extrusion-based exhibit construction system?

Decludt: Extrusions can be used to implement any design or feature element can be imagined and recent design trends are making it a sought after solution for the modular industry. Extrusion can be integrated into existing material and be added on for a larger booth. Another major benefit of extrusions is a much lower operating cost for material handling, labor and freight.

How has the integration of fabrics/graphics changed over the last five years?

Decludt: Many conventional graphics are being replaced by silicone edge graphics (SEG) and new extrusions are always in development. Fabric is lightweight, durable and portable, which reduces the amount of metal that is visible. When fabrics are folded, they take up less storage space. When this is combined with the slim profile of extrusions, exhibits become a lot easier to handle.

What new products and design solutions is your company offering?

Decludt: Pliko is a no-tool folding frame that features a minimalist design and clearly defined edges. The 108-inch by 92-inch graphic area maximizes graphic exposure and the slim frame structure virtually disappears.

We also have a new FH 1490 extrusion system that can accommodate graphics inside and outside the cubes. If you hang such cubes, you double your graphic exposure without any additional hardware costs, and if you suspend such cube, your free valuable floor space is available for product presentation and customer interaction.

We have also developed the FH hybrid system, which has the ability to use a fabric frame or convert it for to a hard panel without acquiring new aluminum.

How has technology affected the extrusion industry?

Decludt: We have invested heavily during the past three years in building, machinery, equipment and software. We are one of the very few manufacturers able to offer a wide array of services to the trade, with more than 50 machines under one roof. Our customers come to us with unique design requirements to stand above the crowd, and we are able to respond quickly and efficiently to most of their challenges, giving them the competitive edge needed in today’s market place.

Can an extrusion system be used to build just about any design a client is looking to create?

Decludt: Extrusions are not always the best solution to a custom design, but the modularity of Aluminum Systems reduces design and engineering costs, and time to market is essential – only a modular system achieves that.

Recently, a customer, who had never used the AGAM Aluminum Modular System, requested one of our Project Coordinator’s assistance on a new design. The customer said he had prepared a parts list but wasn’t confident that he had included all of the proper connectors or extrusions to do so. We suggested he send over a rough hand sketch so we could determine the proper extrusions and connectors. By using AGAM’s technical catalog, we explained how each extrusion would connect, as well as which connectors would work best.

From his sketch, our Project Coordinator was able to work with designers and engineer an AutoCAD drawing, and from there, prepare a detailed parts list with each and every dimension and price spelled out. After confirmation, the Project Coordinator was able to proceed with the order.

After production, the display case components were test assembled to ensure that it functioned as the customer had specified. From there, it underwent a thorough final inspection and was packaged for shipping and sent to the customer.
